2013 Macbook Pro: Still Worth Buying 6 Years Later?

I bought this 13 Inch 2013 Macbook Pro for about $450. How’s it treating me here in late 2019? Pretty darn well it turns out. Follow me on Twitter at !

  1. Hi..i am about to buy a used 2017 macbook 13.3 i5 8gb version and i wonder if it is sufficient for basic photo editing like photoshop/lightroom…no 4k video editing etc…only photo editing from sony a7riii raw files…thank you

  2. I am glad I found this. I am a photographer so I spend most of my time on lightroom because this has such a good screen and a good price I am trying to get my hands on one. Anyone who owns one please tell me if it runs lightroom or photoshop well.

  3. I bought a used Macbook Pro 13 Late 2013. It only came with 128GB storage. You can easily upgrade the storage which I what I did. I changed it to a 512GB NVME SSD and I still use it for video editing and it works great!

  4. Recently bought a 2014 MacBook Pro 256 gig/8 gig. It's very fast, screen quality is amazing, battery life is good (I can watch about 5-6 hours of Netflix). Amazingly they're now selling for $150 more than I paid about a month ago (mine was $625 refurbished from Amazon + $75 2 -year protection plan). Bought a clear case for like $12 on Amazon. It lifts it up a tad and has vent holes which keep the temperature down.
Only gripe : no Touch ID. Laptops had this feature back in 2007 or earlier.

  5. Just fired up the 2013 15" MBP (i7 quad core, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M,) and it still seems pretty snappy after it's been sitting for a year. I was considering selling it, but after watching this, I now feel confident that it's probably got plenty of life left in it yet.

  6. I have a late 2013 15 in. It is an i7, 8 GB of ram. I don't do video editing so all programs that I need run fine. I do have the delamination, until this video I didn't know that it was an issue that could be fixed without me having to repair it. When running I can't see it. Wish I knew to take it in years ago. I had to get the battery changed as the old one swellled and interfered with the track pad. The repair shop guy told me to run it on battery to prevent that. I might call Apple about the screen but otherwise, I am happy with it and hope it will run for a long time.

  7. Could a MBP finely handle some editing work on adobes programs? Good video btw sound/filming is just very good

  8. So after years of being a die hard EDM fan I decided to get into some music production myself, mostly as a hobby but if I’m good at it who knows. Anyways I just ordered the 2013, 15 inch with the quad processor, 16gigs of ram, and 512gig ssd. Cost me $900 on eBay. I’m guessing it’s safe to say I picked the right computer for my intended uses?

  9. i dont know how many times i have watched this video becauze want to buy this laptop in 2020 got good deal in ebay for $300 With 128gb i5 with 4ram so still deciding is it worth to buy in 2020 for that 4ram? plz reply

  10. I've had it since 2014! It works… pretty well for a laptop that old. I have to restart it about once a week. Minecraft makes the fans go super loud, I think there's a problem there. Then again, six year old laptop + Minecraft don't mix. It lags sometimes, overall, 10/10 though.

  11. Do you still prefer Macbook pro 2013 in 2020? I can get one with i5 and 8gb ram and 256gb storage for 400€ ? What do you think?

  12. I literally just bought the 2013 15" MBP with the 2.7 quad core and 16gb RAM… Hoping I like it as much as you do

  13. I’m a graphic designer for a small business and just upgraded to a 2013 15.4 inch MBP. I owned a 13 inch 2015 a few years ago and sold it, the 2013 15.4 performs noticeably better than the 2015. I’m not a big gamer, but during the covid-19 stay at home order I’ve been playing Diablo 3 with absolutely no issues or lag and it looks gorgeous. I wish there was a CD drive so I could burn CDs, but unfortunately CDs are almost obsolete these days. It runs Photoshop and Illustrator together with no issues. No complaints with the machine at all! Love the longevity of MacBooks, I was using a 2009 with an SSD directly before upgrading, and it too could run PS and AI together. Great product, and for the $400 I paid it can’t be beat.

  14. I'm still using my late 2013 13-inch macbook & I am quite reluctant to ever upgrade, for work, gaming (the limited games that are available for macs), everything.

  15. Again , Apple MacBooks do not thermal throdel , when Apple says the cpu has a base clock of 1,2 GHz the CPU runs in Turbo bist with 3,9 and now the glue thermal throdeling means if the MacBook clocks down to under 1,2 GHz and not when it goes to its base clock

  16. 2013- ME866:
    – Option CPU: 2.8 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost 3.5 GHz)

    – RAM: 16 GB 1600MHz DDR3

    – Ổ cứng SSD: 512 GB

    – Màn hình: 13.3 inch RETINA

    – Độ Phân Giải : 2560 x 1600

    – Cổng Mạng : 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0

    – Khe Cắm : Thunderbolt 2, USB 3.0, HDMI

    – Thiết bị nghe nhìn : FaceTime HD Camera, Dual Mics

    Can runs smooth Photoshop&Lightroom?

  17. Can someone give me an advice pls . Found a macbook pro 2013 13 ( core i7 , ram 16gb , ssd 512gb ) for 370-400$. Shall i buy this one for study? Will it work perfectly at least for 4 years?

  18. Is anyone running After Effects on one of these? I've got a 16gb RAM upgraded model with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2 GB card, it runs great on Final Cut and Premiere as I have a 1TB Samsung SSD doing the heavy work but it is awful with rendering animated titles on Ae… Is it my configuration that's wrong or likely just too much for it? I know the Catalina OS messed some things up but can't get my head around it all… Apart from that I've had this Macbook since new in 2014 (cost way more than $450 then haha) and it's the absolute bomb! Ran a whole load of music and video production programs on it and it's been around the world with me! Wouldn't change it for the world

  19. I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. It's starting to show it's age (i.e., starting to run REALLY slow) but I definitely got my money's worth out of it.

  20. I am still using my Pro 2014, two issues since then, the battery is dying and the speakers pretty much useless, but both are definitely fixable, apart from that it works just fine, I would buy the new Mac, but fuck the keyboard and the Touch Bar, shit as shit
